The Development Neurocognition Disorders axis aims at inverstigating the development and cognitive processing of language in typical and typical populations in a lifespan perspective. Our objective is to characterize the nature and weight of the different constraints that shape language acquisition and processing, as well as to identify the underlying neurocognitive mechanisms. Two types of constraints are considered: inherent neurocognitive and motor constraints, and external social constraints, pertaining to the production situation and its actors.
Our research tackles 3 main topics:

  Language development in children
  Neurocognitive mechanisms of language
  Language disorders: Evaluation, Diagnosis and Remediation

Our pluridisciplinary and plurimethodological approach lies at the interface between psychology, sociology, cognitive neuroscience and linguistics, and we consider language in a longitudinal and transversal perspective. We collect on-line data (audio-video recordings in natural context, response times, EEG/MEG, digitizing tablets, eye tracking, movement kinematics, fMRI) as well as off-line data (questionnaires to caregivers and teachers).
The tested populations include individuals from different ages (children, teenagers, adults), with, without or at risk for language disorders (dyslexics, children with developmental language disorder, Alzheimer patients, monolingual and bilingual children and adults, late speakers). Our research further lies at the interface between fundamental and applied research as we aim at developing diagnosis and remediation tools for language deficits, as well as providing strategies for prevention and improvement of language abilities via interventions dedicated to child care professionals.
